Four Injured in AZ Plant Explosion, Fire

Aug. 1, 2023
Chandler firefighters were evacuated from the building due to hazardous materials.

An explosion and fire at a Chandler supplement manufacturing building Monday sent three people to the hospital.

The incident became a hazmat situation when chemicals were found to be in the building, 12 News reported.

“It changes the firefight because now we no longer have personnel within the structure. So, we’re not putting them at risk. We’re fighting it from the outside," Chandler PIO Fire Carlos Vargas told the media.

The explosion happened at Enzyme Process, a supplement manufacturing and sales facility.

Diane Happy, who has worked at Enzyme Process for nearly three decades, said she she was in her office at the time of the explosion.

“I saw the ceiling starting to come down and lightbulbs were just shattering everywhere," Happy said. "Employees were running and I saw smoke.”

Crews from Chandler, Phoenix, Mesa, Tempe and Guadalupe assisted with the blaze, that remains under investigation.
